MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- The Nashville Ballet is jumping ahead a season by staging a spring production built around Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
The Ballet debuted this dance piece back in 2010. The family friendly show uses slapstick and lots of energy to tell a complicated tale about love and relationships.
The Nashville Symphony will perform the score, using music written by Felix Mendelssohn for Shakespeare’s play.
Nashville Ballet Artistic Director Paul Vasterling says Mendelssohn didn’t write quite enough music to back a full ballet, so he chose additional tunes from the composer’s early string symphonies.
“And that’s where I found the rest of the music that I arranged into and mixed up with the incidental music. So it’s got this very, very light, magical quality to it.”
The Nashville Ballet’s production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will begin a three day run at TPAC’s Jackson Hall April 24th.
