NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Nashville Public Library is one of 10 around the country selected to pilot a new oral history project featuring immigrants.
Participants in the project will interview each other in pairs about their lives with the help of a facilitator. At the end of the interview, they will receive a CD. With permission, a second copy of the interview will be sent to the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
Some interview excerpts may also be broadcast locally and nationally.
Mayor Karl Dean said in a statement that he hopes Nashville's immigrant communities will share accounts of their personal journeys for future generations to hear.
Interviews will be conducted by appointment. Scheduling begins on Oct. 19.
