NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Hundreds of people have gathered at rallies in Nashville and Memphis to call for federal civil rights charges against George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch leader who was found not guilty of killing unarmed teen Trayvon Martin.
More than 500 people attended a rally at the Estes Kefauver Federal Building in Nashville on Saturday. People heard speeches and waved signs saying "Justice for Trayvon" and "Justice isn't served until George serves time."
In Memphis, Mayor A C Wharton Jr. was among the speakers at a rally at the National Civil Rights Museum.
Both rallies were peaceful.
Memphis and Nashville were just two of about 100 U.S. cities where rallies were scheduled Saturday.
Last week, a jury found Zimmerman not guilty of second-degree murder in Martin's death.
