NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Nashville won't put the brakes on pedicabs, but could regulate the growing business more closely in the future.
The Metro Transportation and Licensing Commission recommended on Thursday that the city begin policing the industry.
Part bicycle and part tavern, pedal carriages give locals and visitors alike a tour of downtown Nashville from a bicycle seat.
Adults can bring alcoholic beverages on board and the customers do all the work. For now, the companies self-regulate on issues such as determining safe weather conditions, alcohol limits, and background checks for drivers.
Nashville Pedal Tavern manager Brian Gleason told WKRN-TV (http://bit.ly/1z3KQNn ) the city can ensure that new companies coming into the market are all following the same rules.
The Metro Council could have a first reading on the issue in November.
