Naxos Releases New Middle Tennessee State University Wind Ensemble Compact Disc

We were lucky enough to have Dr. Reed Thomas in our studios on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 to talk with our On the Record host—Gina Logue about the recent release of the MTSU Wind Ensemble compact disc “Angels in the Architecture” on the Naxos label.  You will be able to hear the full interview in the near future but this cds marks the first release on Naxos of a University band in Tennessee and one of the few in the nation.  He discusses the process of recording for the Franklin-based Naxos record company and how MTSU became involved with the Wind Band Classics series.   Michael Fleming, an award –winning Associate Professor in the Recording Industry Department of the School of Mass Communication here at Middle Tennessee State University was the recording engineer for this project.

You can hear the MTSU Wind Ensemble in a free concert tonight at 7:30 in Hinton Hall on the MTSU campus as they present their fall concert.   The program will include the world premiere of the Chamber Symphony by Jose Suner.  The Spanish composer will be present for this debut performance.  Other pieces include Voyages by Stephen Stucky a cello concerto featuring the newest addition to the MTSU School of Music faculty,  Christine Kim, on the cello.  The other major piece on the program is Paul Hindemith’s Symphony in B-flat.
