New arts event planned for Murfreesboro in early June

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The City of Murfreesboro will host an upcoming conference by the Tennessee Arts Commission and during that meeting the city and commission will put on on a new arts festival they’re hoping will become an annual event.

They’re calling the event the Murfreesboro Summer Arts Jam and it will be held on the city’s downtown Civic Plaza beginning at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 8.

Tennessee Arts Commission spokeswoman Suzanne Lynch says there will be three bands on hand, 14 artist booths, and six food trucks. You can also expect theater demonstrations and a children’s story time.

The Tennessee Arts Commission will hold its annual conference in Murfreesboro over four days beginning June 7. Lynch says the Commission is expecting 300 artists, arts administrators and arts educators to attend.

“We’re coming together for what’s called Collective Impact Conference which is about becoming a change agent in your community through the arts. A change agent for social and community problems and opportunities and then doing it through an arts lens.”
