MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- Tennessee is, once again the nation’s allergy capital, according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.
Each spring the foundation releases a list of the worst places to live if you suffer from seasonal allergies. This year all four of Tennessee’s major cities made the list, with two in the top five.
Memphis came in at fourth, Knoxville at fifth, Chattanooga at 14th and Nashville at 23rd. Tennessee had more cities in the top 25 than any other state in the nation.
Foundation spokesperson Talisa White says the way to beat seasonal allergies is to stay ahead of the symptoms.
“It’s important that you treat your allergy symptoms before they really hit a lot of people. Don’t wait till the symptoms come on to try to treat them. If you treat them early you can kind of minimize the effect that they have on you once the season really starts.”
The foundation considers three factors when ranking cities for allergies, including the local pollen count, the amount of allergy medication sold, and the number of allergists available in the region.
