Obamacare year 2 open enrollment is underway

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  If you purchased health insurance through the Affordable Care Act online marketplace last year, or hope to do so this year, the open enrollment period is now underway.

Cindy Rhea with the Hope Clinic in Murfreesboro says Tennesseans who used the federal marketplace to buy insurance last year should have received a letter from Uncle Sam reminding them that the open enrollment period is the time to update their records or make policy changes.

Rhea cautions that if your income has changed, as reflected in your most recent federal tax return, any subsidies you might have received this year could change.

“The assistance they’ve been receiving this year in the form of a tax credit could be changed or cancelled altogether. So we really encourage people to go in there and update their account.”

The Hope Clinic provides free marketplace specialiststo help Murfreesboro area residents navigate the exchange.

Open enrollment will close December 15.
