Official: 2 Tennessee officers shot, robbery suspect killed

HOHENWALD, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says two law enforcement officials were shot and a robbery suspect was killed during an exchange of gunfire.

TBI spokesman Josh DeVine tells local media outlets the shooting in Hohenwald, about 80 miles southwest of Nashville, was first reported around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

DeVine says two Hohenwald police officers and two Lewis County sheriff's deputies were responding to a robbery call at a residence, where the homeowner had been stabbed. He says the officials encountered the suspect and an exchange of gunfire broke out.

DeVine says one officer was hit in the chest but was wearing a bulletproof vest. He was treated at the scene. A deputy who was shot was flown to a Nashville hospital. The extent of his injuries wasn't immediately clear.

The suspect was fatally shot. An investigation is ongoing.
