"Orion" Reviewed on The World for 12-5

Demilitarize the police. Disarm the police. Defund the police. Disband the police."

That's from Hannah Giorgis' Twitter feed. Giorgis, who has an Ethiopian and Eritrean background, weighed in on The World after the Ferguson grand jury decision. We turn to her again today in the wake of the verdict in the Eric Garner case. We also want to hear from cops overseas, to get their perspective on the recent, racially-charged events in the US.

We're also closely following the launch of the Orion spacecraft today. Veteran space correspondent Miles O'Brien will tell host Marco Werman all about the mission, and explain why the launch is an important first step on getting humans to Mars.

Psst. Have you heard of Xenon gas? Usually it's the kind of thing you find in industrial lighting. But get this: top athletes are using it to boost their performance. And there's no test for it yet.

And we give you a sneak peak at next week, when we launch a series as part of our SafeMode project. We'll have five portraits of young people, among them a drone operator, a digital diplomat, and a digital activist. The idea is to give you a look at how a new generation views the intersection of technology, security, and privacy.
