Police: Man dies after jumping into Percy Priest Lake

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A 20-year-old man has drowned after he jumped from a cliff near Nashville's Elm Hill Marina.

Authorities tell local media that the man was with a group when he jumped into Percy Priest Lake on Sunday afternoon and did not resurface.

Nashville Fire Department spokesman Brian Haas says the man's body was recovered from the lake about 30 minutes later.

Metro Police Department Captain Jason Starling says the man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Melissa Moore, a witness to the incident, tells WTVF-TV (http://bit.ly/1M67xqP ) that signs prohibit people from jumping off cliffs into the water, but she says several people do it every weekend.

The man's identity has not yet been released.
