Police say Murf. banker stole thousands of dollars from customers

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  A banker working out of a Sun Trust branch in Murfreesboro is facing charges that she stole tens-of-thousands of dollars from customer accounts.

The Tennessee Bureau Investigation says it began investigating 43-year-old Conni Vongphakdy back in June. She was working at the time as a “personal banker” in the East Main Street branch of Sun Trust Bank.

Following the investigation, TBI was able to secure several indictments, charging Vongphakdy with with four counts of Theft over $10,000, two counts of Theft over $1,000, one count of Theft over $60,000, two counts of Forgery over $1,000, and two counts of Money Laundering.

Sun Trust fired Vongphakdy earlier this year.

She surrendered to TBI agents at the Rutherford County Jail yesterday and was later released on a $10,000 bond.
