Police Seek Help in Solving Middle Tenn. Murder

GALLATIN, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities are asking for the public's help in solving the murder of a Middle Tennessee mother nearly four years ago.

WTVF-TV reports (http://bit.ly/NgmGde ) that 27-year-old Lydia Gutierrez was killed in front of her two children in a Sumner County home in August 2010. Detectives said she was suffocated with a plastic bag, then stabbed multiple times.

Gutierrez's boyfriend, Joshua Singletary, was arrested and charged with murder after Gutierrez's 2-year-old son described the killing to police and mentioned Singletary.

Singletary was released after 51 days because police said the child's account was not admissible in court because of his age and there was no DNA evidence placing Singletary at the scene. Singletary said he was innocent.

Gallatin police detectives have contacted the FBI and other national agencies for assistance.
