Possible prostitution inside a Tennessee school investigated

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Six West Tennessee high school students have been suspended as police investigate allegations of prostitution in their school’s bathroom.

Sheriff's Department spokesman Chip Washington told WMC-TV in Memphis that deputies are looking into whether a Bolton High School student had sexual relations with fellow students for money.

The Shelby County School District confirmed the suspensions in a statement issued Wednesday.

Parents and students claimed that on Monday a 14-year-old girl was committing sexual acts in the boys' bathroom, sometimes for $5 and other times for free, with multiple students per day.

Shelby County Schools put counselors in Bolton High School Tuesday.

School administrators say more suspensions are possible. No one has been charged as the investigation continues.
