PRI's The World - with Host Marco Werman

"No one is born a great cook, one learns by doing."

It's one of our favorite quotes from Julia Child's book, My Life in France. Child, and her time in France, play central roles in our show today. We have an in-depth interview with Luke Barr, who has just written a book called Provence, 1970. It was a time, and a place, where three of America's central tastemakers (Child, James Beard, and MFK Fisher) got together, and ended up changing the course of culinary history in America.

And, have the conflicts in Iraq and Syria left you confused about what the "levant" really is? Yeah, we were confused too. So, we sent The World's history guy, Chris Woolf, on a mission to sort it out all for us, and you.

Plus, every Olympics brings some new sports. In Sochi, "team figure skating" will make it's Olympic debut. Yeah, team figure skating. So, what other new events do we all have to look forward to? We'll get the skinny from a veteran winter sports reporter.

Oh, and did you want a little digestif to wash down the Provence segment? You're in luck, courtesy of Scotland. We profile one the world's main ambassadors for single malt Scotch whisky. Surprise, surprise though -- he's German. Only on The World.
