COLUMBIA, Tenn. (AP) — A Tennessee prosecutor says a Columbia teenager charged with the fatal shooting of a Papa John's employee should be tried as an adult.
Prosecutor Brent Cooper says he'll move to get 17-year-old Darious A. Fitzpatrick's case taken out of juvenile court.
Fitzpatrick was arrested Wednesday and charged with 22-year-old Gordon Schaffer during a robbery at the Papa John's in Columbia two days earlier. He also faces charges related to the gunpoint robberies of two Dollar General stores earlier this month.
The Tennessean reported (http://tnne.ws/1rsGruk ) that Cooper also said Fitzpatrick won't face a death sentence because state law bars the death penalty for all juveniles charged with crimes.
Police said Thursday at least one suspect connected with the deadly robbery is still at large.
