Ramsey pans revival of Medicare expansion bill in the Tenn. Senate

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The top Republican in the state Senate is throwing cold water on an effort to revive Gov. Bill Haslam's Insure Tennessee proposal.

Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey of Blountville says it's unlikely that the measure makes it to a full floor vote even though it appears to have decent prospects in its initial committee.

The Senate TennCare Subcommittee on Monday voted 3-2 to give a positive recommendation to the resolution sponsored by Democratic Sen. Jeff Yarbro of Nashville and a Haslam spokesman said the governor supports the move to rekindle the measure that failed in a special legislative session last month.

Supporters need five votes to advance the measure out of the full committee, but it would likely face tougher prospects in its next committees.
