Rash of Murfreesboro Auto Burglaries Continues, Arrest Made

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Eleven vehicles were burglarized in Murfreesboro yesterday, but police made an arrest that may at least slow the recent rash of thefts.

Early yesterday morning a Murfreesboro patrolman says he spotted a man in a car in the parking lot of the Nottingham Apartments on Greenland Drive. When confronted, the officers says the man fled on foot but was soon captured.

Police have now identify the suspect as 29 year-old Brian Terry Helton of Woodbury.

Police say Helton had a number of items in the back pack he was wearing at the time of his arrest, several of which were later identified as stolen.  Officials eventually discovered that six different vehicles in the apartment complex parking lot had been broken into.

Helton was charged with seven counts of burglary and four counts of theft under $500. He was booked into the Rutherford County Jail.

Four other auto burglaries were reported yesterday in other parts of the city for a total of 10 incidents in a single day.

Murfreesboro Police also reported yesterday that a car was stolen from a Boyd Avenue resident.
