GATLINBURG, Tenn. (AP) — Officials at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park say some roads have reopened after a record amount of snow and ice fell over the weekend.
WBIR-TV (http://on.wbir.com/1wrzznK) reports Cades Cove Loop Road reopened Sunday, as well as part of Laurel Creek Road. One of the main roads in the park, Highway 441, which runs from Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to Cherokee, North Carolina, remained closed.
Some parts of the park saw record snowfall over the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, Mount LeConte recorded 22 inches of snow as of Sunday, marking a new daily snowfall.
Warmer temperatures are expected beginning on Monday, when the projected high is 61 degrees.
