Renowned Trumpeter Kicks Off 15th Annual MTSU Jazz Series

MURFREESBORO Tenn. (WMOT) — The 15th annual Jazz Artists Series kicks off Thursday on the campus of Middle Tennessee State with a performance by renowned jazz trumpeter Scott Wendholt.

Wendholt played for six years with the acclaimed Vincent Herring's Quintet and has toured extensively. He currently teaches at the Manhattan School of Music.

Wendholt will join be joined onstage by the MTSU Jazz Ensemble and jazz faculty members Thursday evening at MTSU's Wright Music Building.

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. concert are $10 for the general public and free for students and faculty. Discounts for mid-state music students and educators are available.

Wendholt will also present a free public educational clinic at 11:30 a.m. Thursday morning in Room 303 of MTSU’s Saunders Fine Arts Building.

The series will continue early next year with performances by artist Shaun Purcell, jazz guitarist and drummer Jim White and jazz saxophonist John Ellis.
