Report: "Driving While Black" in Nashville

Gideon's Army

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  A study released Tuesday says Nashville Police are guilty of racial profiling.

The 200 page report was compiled by Gideon’s Army, a group that advocates for children caught up in the legal system.

The Tennessean reports the study analyzed metro data on nearly 2 million traffic stops. It says police stop residents of color far more often than whites.

A metro spokesman responded that police simply concentrate enforcement where crime takes place. They also contend that traffic stops are an effective tool for preventing crime.
