MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  A national group that advocates for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender rights says some of Tennessee’s largest companies scored well on its yearly Corporate Equality Index .

The Human Rights Councilbills itself as the nation’s largest LGBT civil rights organization. The HRC conducts a yearly workplace equality review of the nation’s largest companies.

Of the 781 companies rated this year, 12 are located in Tennessee. Only Franklin headquartered Nissan North America scored a perfect 100 on the index. Seven others scored above 50 percent, including Dollar General, HCA, Bridgestone and FedEx.

HRC spokesperson Deena Fieas says there are still several other large, Tennessee based companies that have yet to participate in the index.

“Businesses that are Fortune-500 range, but failed to participate, and really didn’t have a lot of their viable information out there, include Eastman Chemical, Vanguard, and Community Health Systems.”
