Rutherford County child drowns at birthday party

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — Police say a 4-year-old boy has drowned while attending a birthday party.

The Daily News Journal (http://on.dnj.com/VfkFSp) cited a statement from the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office in reporting that Evan Sayvone died Saturday at Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital. Police say the boy apparently went outside during the party and got through the gate and into the pool.

Detective Lt. Todd Sparks said it appeared the boy had been in the water for several minutes before he was found. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Sparks said the tragedy was "a horrible accident."
