Severe weather expected Tuesday night

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Unsettled weather is moving into the mid-state and could result in damaging storms Tuesday night.

Passing storms are expected over the next 48 hours as a warm weather front and a cold weather front battle for control of the region.

The best chance for dangerous weather comes Tuesday night. The Weather Service says a line of storms will move through the mid-state at around midnight. Damaging winds and even tornados are possible then.

Tennessee sees a lot of storm related deaths and Weather Service meteorologist Justyn Jackson says frequent nighttime storms are the reason.

“Tennessee is one of the deadliest states for tornados. Really, in fact, all of the Southeast States just because we tend to have a higher frequency of severe weather at night. (It) makes sense because a lot of people are sleeping at night.”

Jackson suggests you more than one method to stay on top of any severe weather alerts or warnings. Several services will send alerts directly to your smartphone. Alert programmable weather radios are also a good option.
