Shoeless in the Mid-State for a Good Cause

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  You may encounter someone walking barefoot today on the street or at work, thanks to the efforts of a mid-state charity.

The Old Hickory based ministry Souls4Soles is holding what it’s calling Barefoot4them day. The group is trying to raise awareness for its efforts to provide shoes to the poor around the world and here in the States.

The charity says people in nine countries and all across the U.S. have signed up to go barefoot today.

WMOT News caught up with spokesperson Rebecca Cicione this morning as some Souls4Soles supporters were walking barefoot around downtown Nashville. She says the charity is also asking supporters to upload photos of their bare feet to social websites.

“And for every photo that’s uploaded today with their bare feet and the hastag #barefoot4them, a running website KindRunner.com is donating one dollar to us for every photo that’s uploaded. So we’re getting people to come out and take pictures with us in downtown Nashville.”

Souls4Soles says it estimates there are 300 million children worldwide who are so poor they don’t own even one pair of shoes.

You’ll find a link to the charity’s website on the news page at WMOT.org if you’d like to learn more.
