Shooting death, another jail suicide in Murf. over the weekend

RCSO

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Murfreesboro Police have now released the name of Sunday’s shooting victim, one of two violent deaths that occurred in the city over the weekend.

A police incident report released Monday morning says a patrol officer arrived at 1306 Eagle Street Sunday afternoon to find 20-year-old Tijuandre S. Garrett bleeding from a gunshot wound to his left side.

Garrett wasn’t breathing so the officer began CPR. The Tulane Ct. resident was taken to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

MPD detectives are investigating the case as a homicide.

No other details have been made available. Anyone with information about the shooting is being asked to call police.

Also this weekend, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation began  looking into what’s believed to be the second suicide at the Rutherford County Jail in eight days. The TBI says 54-year-old Michael J. Murray apparently hanged himself in his cell Friday.

Murray was arrested Thursday after being indicted on three counts of sexual battery by an authority figure. He was reportedly found dead in his cell during a recreation period.

Last week 32-year-old Jonathan Maxwell was also found hanged in a holding cell at the county jail. That death is being investigated by the TBI as well.
