Slide Hampton - Jazz Profiles

Slide Hampton on Jazz Profiles, Sunday, June 26, 5:00 p.m.Trombonist, composer, and arranger Slide Hampton is a distinguished jazz veteran. Raised in Indianapolis with an extraordinarily musical family, he started performing at the young age of twelve. His friends were talented too; some of his contemporaries included Wes Montgomery, J.J. Johnson, and Freddy Hubbard. By the time he was twenty, he was performing at Carnegie Hall with the Lionel Hampton Band. He later found his great inspiration in bebop and worked in bands led by Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, and Max Roach. For decades he has collaborated with the most prominent musicians in jazz and was awarded with a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Arrangement with a Vocalist in 1998.
