Snap on 2&4 with Marcus Finnie

Join the Nashville Jazz Workshop for a special Saturday edition of Snap on 2&4, on Nov. 8, with the incredible drummer and composer Marcus Finnie and his band!

A Memphis native, Marcus Finnie began playing drums at church accompanying his mother on organ. From grade school to high school, Marcus began studying classical and jazz music. While playing at Olivet Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee, Marcus was told by Grammy-winning saxophonist Kirk Whalum that "if you keep practicing and learn to read music, you will play with me someday". Ten years later during his college days at Middle Tennessee State University, Marcus was invited to record with Kirk Whalum on his album "Into My Soul".

Since then, while living in Nashville, Marcus has performed with Larry Carlton, Donna Summer, Kirk Whalum, India Arie, Billy Preston, Tamir Hendleman, Monte Montgomery, Larry Goldings, Steve Green, Aaron Neville and CeCe Winans. Marcus has also recorded with Grammy and Stellar Award nominated and winning artists Michael McDonald, Smokie Norful, Donnie McClurkin, American Idols' Ace Young, Rodney Crowell, Vickie Winans, Rachel Lampa, Adam Nitti, Bryan Bellar and several others. In 2010, he released an incredible debut CD as a leader entitled "Boundless".

Joining Marcus for this event will be a stellar band, including Joe Davidian (piano), Rod McGaha (trumpet), Rahsaan Barber (saxophone), Lindsey Miller (guitar) and Brian Allen (bass).

The show will consist of two sets beginning at 8 p.m. The doors open at 7:15 p.m.

Admission is $20 / $10 high school and college students with ID. Tickets are on sale now, and will be available online or by phone 24/7 at Brown Paper Tickets (800-838-3006) or during business hours at the NJW office (242-5299). A small convenience charge is added to online or 800-number purchases.
