Social media post lands another Metro cop in hot water

City of Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  For the second time in a week a Nashville Police Officer is facing disciplinary action for a post on social media.

Metro officials say Officer Christopher Taylor was decommissioned Sunday after a photo of Black Panther members brandishing guns was seen on his Facebook page.

WZTV says one of its reporters spotted the image, an iconic photo of two members of the 1960s era Black Nationalist group. The photo has since been removed.

In a statement Nashville Police say Taylor told them he has “strong historical interest” in the photo and that he often posts bits of historical information on his Facebook page.

Last Thursday Metro decommissioned Officer Anthony Venable for posting the comment, “Yeah, I would have done five,” apparently in reference to the controversial shooting of a black man four times by white officers in Minnesota.

The Commercial Appeal reports that two Memphis officers were recently suspended because of controversial posts they made to Snapchat.
