The MTSU Wind Ensemble’s second record on the Naxos label is the topic on the next edition of the “MTSU On the Record” radio program.
Host Gina Logue’s interview with Dr. Reed Thomas, MTSU’s director of bands and a professor of music, will air from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Monday, May 26, and from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Sunday, June 1, on WMOT-FM (89.5 and www.wmot.org).
Thomas conducted the wind ensemble on Earthrise, a collection of performances in the Wind Band Classics series on the Franklin, Tennessee-based Naxos label. The group’s first record, “Angels in the Architecture,” was released on Naxos in 2011.
Musical segments played in the interview come from the title track, “Earthrise,” composed by Nigel Clarke; the second movement of “Griot,” composed by Kit Turnbull and featuring Dr. David Loucky, MTSU music professor, on trombone; and “Sortes Diabolorum,” composed by Jesus Santandreu.
“To have us be this close to that caliber of musicians and experiences is invaluable for our students when they graduate so they can, hopefully, understand what it means to be in a recording studio and look at that as a viable option for employment once they leave MTSU,” Thomas said.
