MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- Mid-State Sex Offenders face special restrictions during Halloween week and some can expect a visit from police.
By state law, sex offenders are not allowed to participate in any Halloween activities. They can’t pass out candy, attend Halloween parties, or wear costumes, and are confined to their homes on trick-or-treat night.
Here in Rutherford County, Sex Offenders on parole will get a visit from law enforcement. Sheriff’s Office Detective Patty Hillis says teams of officers will fan out across the county to check up on 88 offenders.
“We want to make sure that our sex offenders are complying with their rules and regulations. Number one, of course, is the safety of the children in our communities. Everybody wants to keep an eye on these folks.”
Detective Hillis encourages residents to sign on to the sex offender registryto learn if any are living in their neighbor hoods. She says if you suspect an offender is violating Halloween regulations, call your local police department and report your concerns.
