Spying, Doping, Violence in the Middle East and Greek Armor on The World for 7-10

Spying at home, more violence in the Middle East, doping in Major League baseball, and -- of course -- ancient Greek armor. It must be Thursday here at The World.

We'll begin today with two NSA related stories. The first concerns alleged spying against Muslim-Americans here in the United States, and we'll hear from Asim Ghafoor, a lawyer who has allegedly been targeted. Ongoing spying revelations are also affecting US/German relations. We'll hear from a German parliamentarian who is less than happy.

We're also staying on top of events in the Middle East. Today, The World's Matthew Bell digs in and tells us more about Hamas.

Bloodsport: that's the name of a new book about doping in Major League Baseball, and the efforts made to stop it happening. Authors Tim Elfrink and Gus Garcia-Roberts take us on a journey from Belize to Miami, by way of many Latin American countries. A truly global story, and you're going to want to listen in.

And finally..."This...is...Sparta." Remember that line from the movie 300? Remember all those Greek warriors with little skirts and six-pack abs? Well, we're going to talk about real Greek armor. A researcher at the University of Wisconsin tells us about linen, the Greek version of kevlar.
