NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — State education officials are asking educators and parents not to be discouraged if students' test scores are lower this year.
That's because officials are increasing the threshold for test scores as part of the state's move to create tougher grading standards.
The Tennessean reports (http://tnne.ws/2e3Jnm0) that test program TNReady will release scores for high school students within the next few weeks. This year, the scores are set up to align closer to the standards seen on the ACT test.
Education Commissioner Candice McQueen says that the scores shouldn't be compared to the previous year's tests because the new tests measure different levels for different subjects.
McQueen says the scores will give officials a better understanding of where students stand.
