MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  A new report lists Murfreesboro as one of the best markets in the country for first time home buyers, beating out all of Tennessee’s largest cities.

WMOT reporting partner Wallethub.com notes that the economic hangover from the Great Recession has left many Americans unable to afford that first home. So they compared 300 cities across the country looking for the best places for prospective new home owners to buy.

Wallethub analyst Jill Gonzalez says the study looks at about 20 metrics, including housing affordability, property taxes, and crime rates. Murfreesboro scored much higher than any other city in Tennessee.

“Murfreesboro was almost in the top 10 percent here. It ranked 32nd out of all 300 cities. It did particularly well when it comes to the Real Estate Market. So not only housing options but housing affordability as well.”

Gonzalez says Murfreesboro, understandably, doesn’t score quiet as well as the larger cities with regard to recreational and entertainment options.
