Study says mid-state a great place to work for a small business

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  A new study says Nashville is one of the best cities in the country to work for a small company.

WMOT’s reporting partners at the personal finance website Wallethub.com ranked the nation’s 100 largest cities using eleven metrics. Nashville ranked sixth in the nation, coming in ahead of Salt Lake City and just behind Omaha.

Wallethub’s Jill Gonzalez says Nashville scored in the top ten because of unusually high average salaries of around $60,000 a year, and because there are lots of small business jobs to choose from.

“There’s also a lot of industry variety, so tech there, healthcare, really a lot of opportunities for people to get a job within a small business.”

Gonzalez says the only drawback to working for a small business in Middle Tennessee is the overtime. She says employees are putting in a higher than average number of hours to keep those businesses humming.

Memphis and Knoxville also made the Wallethub list, but scored much lower at 67th and 75th.
