MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- A new poll suggests most Tennesseans are happy with their local public school system, and hold their local teachers in high regard.
A poll released this week by Middle Tennessee State University says that 69 percent of Tennesseans surveyed would give their local schools a grade of “C” or higher, while 65 percent say they have “trust and confidence in the men and women who are teaching children in the public schools.”
Tennesseans living in Shelby and Davidson county, the two counties with the state’s largest school systems, were far less pleased with their schools. Just 55 percent of respondents in those two counties gave their local schools a grade “C” or higher.
One unusual finding revealed by the MTSU Poll was that those resident least satisfied with Tennessee schools are those most likely to say that teachers are the problem.
The MTSU poll was conducted by phone Jan. 25-27 and involved 600 randomly selected residents statewide.
