TBI Releases Annual "Crime on Campus" Report

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  -- The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has released it’s “Crime on Campus” report for 2011 and the numbers are sobering.

The TBI said Wednesday that crime on the state’s college campuses increased by more than 4 percent last year. Kristin Helm is a TBI spokesperson.

“The types of crimes that are increasing on college campus include drugs and narcotics violations, sex offenses, theft, and overall assaults.”

Helms said violent crime was also up nearly 20% for the second year in a row, drug cases were up 26%, and Tennessee schools reported 20 cases of rape during the period; up by almost 50%
