MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) --  A Murfreesboro police officer and his wife are facing drug charges after authorities say they tried to exchange a television set for hydrocodone pain pills.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says it arrested 43 year-old Andrew Messick and his wife, 44 year-old Crystal Messick Monday evening in the parking lot of a Murfreesboro Walgreens pharmacy.

The TBI says it received a tip that the couple wanted to exchange a TV for a controlled substance. TBI agents made the exchange and then arrested the couple for simple possession and the casual exchange of a controlled substance.

The Murfreesboro Police Department says Officer Messick has been relieved of his duties and decommissioned. He’s served with the department since 2010 and was working until his arrest as a uniformed patrol officer.

Messick and his wife were booked into the Rutherford County Jail and then released.
