MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (Hanlon) -- Students attending Tennessee Board of Regents colleges and universities may see the lowest tuition increases in a decade this fall.

According to The Tennessean, TBR's Finance and Business Operations Committee met last week to discuss next year's tuition increases. The Middle Tennessee State, Tennessee State, East Tennessee, Austin Peay, the University of Memphis, Tennessee Tech.  and all of the state's community and technical colleges.”

Just last year, tuition was raised by about 5 percent. Officials said they want to keep this year’s tuition increase below 4 percent. An increase that low hasn’t been approved by the board since at least 2006.

TBR Chancellor John Morgan said, “the state has stepped up” by improving the funding for higher education, making the lower tuition increase possible.

The tuition increases will be considered by the full Board of Regents at their summer meeting June 19.
