WASHINGTON, DC (OSBORNE) -- Conservative Tennessee Republican Congressional Rep. Diane Black rarely finds herself on the left of any issue, but that’s the uncomfortable position she finds herself in as the GOP struggles to pass a budget.
Black chairs the powerful House Budget Committee. Earlier this year she successfully pushed a budget bill out of her committee, but the measure has yet to reach the House floor for a final vote.
Freedom Caucus Republicans, many with Tea Party affiliations, are demanding changes to the budget.
A frustrated Black told Politico Wednesday that she’s asking House Speaker Paul Ryan to bring the bill to the floor even if it doesn’t have the votes to pass.
The hope is that Freedom Caucus members will vote in favor, rather than go on record opposing a major item on the Republican legislative agenda.
Black recently announced her candidacy to be Tennessee's next governor.
