MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  A Tennessee couple peddling a bicycle built-for-two are 28 days into their cross-country adventure.

Murfreesboro residents Martha and Larry Tolbert began their journey in early June in Washington D.C. They hope to finish the nearly 4000 mile trip on the Pacific Coast in about seven more weeks.

The Tolberts began their Tuesday ride from Crandon, Wisconsin. Marthan Tolbert says Wisconsin has been a pleasant surprise.

“We’re just seeing some beautiful, beautiful parts of the country. Wisconsin is gorgeous. It’s America’s dairy land and we’ve gone by lots of dairy farms and just beautiful farm country.”

Tolbert says that a highlight of the trip to date was taking a ferry across Lake Michigan.

“We started out in the morning and it was real foggy and overcast and, you know, within an hour or two it’s bright and sunny and the water looked so blue. So that was really kind of an enjoyable day.”

Martha Tolbert says she and husband Larry are doing well physically. She says they did 82 miles yesterday, their best mileage for a single day so far.
