Tenn. man pleads guilty to plotting attack on Muslims

Doggart campaign

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  A former Tennessee congressional candidate has been arrested for plotting to attack a Muslim community in Delaware County, New York.

The Chattanooga Times-Free Press reports Signal Mountain, Tennessee, resident Robert Doggart has entered a plea agreement with prosecutors that could result in five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Federal agents began surveillance on Doggart earlier this year. Wiretapped conversations revealed he was making plans to burn down an Islamic school and mosque in upstate New York.

In a Facebook post Doggart wrote "We shall be Warriors who will inflict horrible numbers of casualties upon the enemies of our Nation and World Peace."

In 2014, Doggart ran as an independent candidate against U.S. Congressman Scott DesJarlais for his Tennessee 4th Congressional District seat, winning about six percent of the vote.
