Tenn. Rep. Diane Black getting budget pressure from all sides

congress.gov

WASHINGTON, DC  (AP/WMOT)  --  Tennessee Republican Rep. Diane Black is in the hot seat as the GOP struggles to pass 12 appropriations bills for the coming fiscal year.

Black chairs the influential House Budget Committee and is working to balance the competing interests of her fellow Republicans.

President Trump wants to increase defense spending by 10 percent, but some defense hawks want to spend even more.

Black wants to make cuts to domestic programs and foreign aid to pay for the defense increases, but GOP moderates fear a backlash from voters down the road if cuts are made to popular programs like Social Security and Medicaid.
