NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee school board delegates have voted almost unanimously for a resolution urging the state to fund all recommendations made in years past — but recently dropped — by a state panel.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/1kAawwM ) reports that state educators were shocked earlier this month, when the Basic Education Program Review Committee's annual report dropped longtime school needs costing millions. The report dropped eight years of previous recommendations and the specific dollar amounts to implement them.
At the Tennessee School Boards Association 2015 leadership conference in Nashville, 217 of the 219 delegates on Sunday voted for the resolution seeking full funding of past priorities.
Dr. Sara Heyburn, executive director of the Tennessee Board of Education, said the committee's move had nothing to do a lawsuit that asserts the state isn't meeting the costs to educate students.
