Is Tennessee a good place for working moms to find a job?

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Just in time for Mother’s Day a new study suggests Tennessee is a surprisingly good place for working moms to find and hold a job.

Our reporting partners at the personal finance website Wallethub.com ranked Tennessee 22 among the 50 states, but it ranked well above every Southeastern State except Virginia.

Wallethub analyst Jill Gonzalez says the study rated twelve metrics. Tennessee scored its highest marks in the area of childcare costs.

“Fifteen percent of a woman’s salary is going to be going toward childcare and that’s actually pretty low, I mean if you compare it to somewhere like New York or D.C. it’s almost 40 percent. So that is really the frontrunner there for Tennessee.”

Gonzalez says Tennessee also scored pretty high on the gap between salaries for male vs. female workers.

The state scored poorly with regard to opportunities for advancement for female employs and also in the area of work life balance.
