Tennessee Launches Anti-Sex-Trafficking Campaign

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Not exactly light reading, but the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is placing anti-sex-trafficking posters up in bathroom stalls at rest stops across the state.

It will likely prove effective. State officials say Tennessee Welcome Centers see 12 million visitors a year.

A 2011 TBI study revealed that 80 percent of Tennessee counties had reported cases of human trafficking in the last 24 months; 72 percent of those cases involved the trafficking of children.

The poster is eye catching. It combines a young woman’s face with the profile of a man. The posters reads, “”You see a girl who can do anything. He sees a girl he can force to do anything.”

Josh Devine is a TBI spokesman.

“The poster also includes some warning signs that people might be able to spot a potential victim of human trafficking, and it also has the phone number for the state’s human trafficking resource center hotline where people can call in tips.”

TBI officials note that human trafficking is one of the nation’s fastest growing crimes.
