Tennessee not the best place for college grads to find that first job

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.  (WMOT)  --  Just in time for spring graduations, a new report suggests Tennessee largest cities may not be the best places for college grads to find that first job.

WMOT reporting partner Wallethub.com used 17 metrics to rank the 150 best and worst cities in the nation to start a career.

Nashville was the only city to score in the top half of the list, coming in at 23.. Memphis had the lowest scoring coming in at 108.

Wallethub analyst Jill Gonzalez says Nashville got top marks with regard to the number of entry level jobs available. The city also enjoys higher than average starting salaries, but Gonzalez says there’s not a lot of room in the mid-state for career advancement.

“As far as where it could be doing better, that’s just really looking at the economic mobility…really the odds of reaching the top-fifth from the bottom-fifth.”

Gonzalez says to be more attractive to grads looking for that first job Knoxville needs to get its household income numbers up, Chattanooga needs to generate more entry level jobs, and Memphis needs healthier population growth.
