Tennessee Reps join the Democratic sit in on the House floor

Jim Cooper

WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP/WMOT)  -- Tennessee’s Democratic congressman are among those who continue to stage a sit in on the floor of the U.S. House Representatives.

Middle Tennessee Rep. Jim Cooper is using Facetime to talk with media and supporters from the floor of the house. West Tennessee Rep. Steve Cohen took to Twitter to say “Proud to join my colleagues… Time to take action.”

Democrats interrupted yesterday’s House floor session just before noon, staging a sit in, chanting slogans and singing protest songs in an effort to force majority Republicans to schedule a vote on gun control legislation in the wake of the Orlando massacre.

House Speaker Paul Ryan refused to be swayed, calling the sit in a “publicity stunt” and then abruptly adjourned the House until after the Fourth of July holiday break.
