Panik gets hat trick to lead Blackhawks past Predators, 5-3

CHICAGO (AP) — Richard Panik scored three goals for his first NHL hat trick, Scott Darling was sharp in making 33 saves and the Chicago Blackhawks earned their first victory of the season, 5-3 over the Nashville Predators on Saturday night.

Nashville trailed 3-0 after Schmaltz, Seabrook and Panik scored in a 3:43 span in the first period, and could never pull even in this one.

Alabama beats Tennessee in 49-10 runaway

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Jalen Hurts and Bo Scarbrough each rushed for over 100 yards Saturday and No. 1 Alabama again got points from its defense and special teams in a 49-10 blowout of No. 9 Tennessee.

Alabama (7-0, 4-0 SEC) earned its 19th straight victory overall and its 10th consecutive win in this annual series. Tennessee (5-2, 2-2) has lost its last 13 games against Southeastern Conference Western Division schools.

It was the most lopsided victory by either team in this rivalry since a 51-0 Alabama victory in 1906.

Hurts, the Crimson Tide's freshman quarterback, ran for 132 yards and three touchdowns as Alabama outrushed Tennessee 438-32. Scarborough rushed for 109 yards on just five carries, including an 85-yard touchdown.

Alabama posted its highest single-game rushing total since running for 457 yards in a 56-28 victory over Tennessee in 1986.

The Tide also scored on Ronnie Williams' 58-yard interception return and Eddie Jackson's 79-yard punt return. Alabama has 11 non-offensive touchdowns this season, including eight from its defense. The Tide entered the day leading all Football Bowl Subdivision teams in both categories.

Tennessee had erased double-digit deficits in five of its first six games — including a 45-38 loss at Texas A&M last week in which it forced overtime after trailing 28-7 — but the Volunteers couldn't deliver a similar comeback this time.

Stunner between the hedges: Vandy upsets Georgia 17-16

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Vanderbilt claimed its first Southeastern Conference road win in Derek Mason's three seasons as coach, stunning Georgia 17-16 on Khari Blasingame's 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter and a huge fourth-down stop late in the game Saturday.

The Bulldogs (4-3, 2-3 SEC) held a commanding lead in total yards, 421-171, but special teams blunders doomed the home team and left rookie coach Kirby Smart facing plenty of questions heading into an off week.

For Vanderbilt (3-4, 1-3), it was only the third win over Georgia in the last 22 meetings between the SEC East rivals. Mason had dropped his first nine league road games before the upset between the hedges.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Mitch Kimble passed for 323 yards and two touchdowns and guided Eastern Illinois back from a 14-point deficit on Saturday to beat Tennessee Tech 30-24.

Eastern Illinois cut the deficit to 17-10 with 19 seconds left in the first half and Nick Bruno added a field goal before halftime after Tennessee Tech fumbled on the kickoff. Kimble's 65-yard TD pass to Paul Gossage made it 20-17 early in the third and Darshon McCullough scored on a 1-yard TD run less than four minutes later.

Tennessee Tech (2-5, 2-3) cut the lead to 27-24 on Andrew Goldsmith's 3-yard TD run with 7:31 left, but The Panthers answered with Bruno's third field goal and the EIU defense held from there.
