Tennessee's homeless programs getting $21 million in federal grants

Journey Home

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Homeless programs across Tennessee will receive a portion of nearly $2 billion allocated by U.S. Housing and Urban Development, including nine programs here in Rutherford County.

Officials say more than $21 million in grants will support 162 local homeless housing and service programs across Tennessee. Nine programs in Rutherford County will share just over half-a-million dollars.

The federal Continuum of Care grants are designed to provide critically needed services for homeless people and their families.

The grants can be used for street outreach, client assessment, permanent and transitional housing, job training, health care, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment and child care.
